Liverpool’s hierarchy reportedly remains convinced that Arne Slot is the right man to take them forward into next season. The Dutch manager has faced significant scrutiny throughout this campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Slot’s defending Premier League<\/a> champions have endured a torrid season, with the Reds languishing in fifth place in the top-flight standings and trailing league leaders Manchester City by 15 points. Liverpool have also been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions as well as the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Reds<\/a>‘ underwhelming campaign follows a summer of substantial investment at Anfield<\/a>, with Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike amongst the high-profile acquisitions on Merseyside. Yet injuries have also contributed to their difficulties, with Isak and now Ekitike sidelined for extended periods.<\/p>\n

The Daily Mail has highlighted these factors – suggesting that Liverpool’s senior figures acknowledge they have been a contributing element to their troubles. Consequently, there is reportedly a conviction that Slot deserves to remain in post.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, they note that club officials will not have overlooked the Reds’ concerning displays – including instances where Slot’s side have been overpowered and appeared fragile.<\/p>\n

Claims that Slot will continue on Merseyside have been backed by former Reds centre-back Jamie Carragher<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “Arne Slot’s job has been spoken about all season. We’ve spoken about it a lot on Monday Night Football.<\/p>\n

“There’s probably a split in the Liverpool supporters over whether he should stay or go. But the noises I am hearing is Slot will be the Liverpool manager next season if they can secure Champions League qualification, which they look like doing right now.”<\/p>\n

Slot has also discussed preparations for the upcoming campaign during Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s encounter with Crystal Palace on Saturday (3pm BST).<\/p>\n

He said: “I’m mainly here for the short or mid-to-long-term, and mainly the Palace game. There are conversations about next season but my main focus is this season.<\/p>\n

“Margins are small and one or two results can make a big difference. Two weeks ago we weren’t five points clear of sixth. It can go both ways. Focus is on Palace and we’ve been unable to beat them in three games this season.<\/p>\n

“In the last eight games we have picked up 16 points and it doesn’t always feel like that. Our recent league form is acceptable.”<\/p>\n
