{"id":550053,"date":"2026-04-25T13:47:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T13:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/550053\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T13:47:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T13:47:12","slug":"hundreds-queue-from-early-hours-ahead-of-opening-of-new-tokyo-toys-store-at-the-the-forum-shopping-centre-sittingbourne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/550053\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds queue from early hours ahead of opening of new Tokyo Toys store at the The Forum Shopping Centre, Sittingbourne"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hundreds of gamers are still queuing through a town centre hours after a new shop opened its doors \u2013 with lines snaking back along the High Street.<\/p>\n<p>Some die-hard fans had arrived as early as 6am to be among the first inside Tokyo Toys in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/sittingbourne\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sittingbourne<\/a>, which launched at 10am.<\/p>\n<p>By then, the queue had stretched out of the Forum Shopping Centre and all the way back to Net Church \u2013 the former Wilko building in the High Street.<\/p>\n<p>The surge in demand comes just two months after boss Hideki Nguyen, who lives in Bexley, took over the unit \u2013 previously home to mobility aid specialists Ability Plus \u2013 and transformed it into a destination for gamers.<\/p>\n<p>Inside, customers will find an arcade featuring six motion mixers connected to PlayStation 5s, alongside a Nintendo Switch, foosball and air hockey tables, plus dedicated areas for card games.<\/p>\n<p>The store also sells Japanese anime and manga products, trading cards, video game merchandise and Warhammer tabletop gaming miniature figures.<\/p>\n<p>The 52-year-old owner and his team of seven staff officially opened the shop today \u2013 and were stunned by the turnout.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 2953 2218\" alt=\"Hundreds of people have queued in Sittingbourne High Street for the opening of Tokyo Toys in the Fourm Shopping Centre. Picture: Joe Crossley<\/p>\n<p>His wife, Samatha Nguyen, 32, said the crowds far exceeded expectations as she handed out raffle tickets to those waiting in line.<\/p>\n<p>The optician, who is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to their second child just five months ago, told KentOnline: \u201cIt\u2019s amazing. Picture: Joe Crossley<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cA shop like this opening in Sittingbourne hasn\u2019t happened in a while.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have The Light, and now we have this. It\u2019s a big thing for us who live in Sittingbourne.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is Tokyo Toys\u2019 fourth location, with the closest in Sidcup and others in Glasgow and Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>Hideki has invested between \u00a370,000 and \u00a380,000 transforming the unit since taking it on in February.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentonline.co.uk\/sittingbourne\/news\/we-barely-knew-where-this-town-was-now-we-re-opening-a-ne-337274\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KentOnline visited in March<\/a>, contractors were still taking down the ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the shop has been completely revamped, with new flooring, redecorated walls and soundboard-style features installed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 3740 2570\" alt=\"Tokyo Toys owner Hideki Nguyen with a gaming fan who was among the first people in his new shop. Picture: Joe Crossley<\/p>\n<p>The store is managed by Henry Bancroft, from Bromley, a European-level trading card player who has been promoted from the Sidcup branch.<\/p>\n<p>An after-party event will take place tomorrow (Sunday) from 4pm to 7pm, with entry via the rear of the Forum Shopping Centre after it closes.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will be able to enjoy pizza and refreshments, with the arcade and board games free to play.
