The proposals were put forward by Mr Nick Russel of Rubicon Storage Ltd for Lark Farm near Fakenham.

This involves extending the existing hardstanding area opposite the grain stores to provide the development.

Two parallel rows of 15 shipping containers have been proposed, each twenty feet in length and to be used for domestic storage.

The proposed containers are described as being of a standard size and colour, finished in dark green to reduce visual prominence and match the existing buildings on the site.

Solar lighting will also be provided at a low level, controlled by motion detection and strictly limited to opening hours, along with secure fencing and landscaping.

It was highlighted that the siting is driven by “operational requirements” to “maintain the unrestricted use of the farmyard” by large agricultural machinery, without compromising user safety.

No permanent structures are to be introduced as a result of the development and it will be reversible in nature.

In a planning statement, it was said that the development is “critical to the diversification of farm incomes at an established rural enterprise”.

North Norfolk District Council will make a decision on the plans at a later date (Image: Newsquest)

The statement added: “The proposed development delivers tangible economic benefits through the diversification of an established agricultural enterprise at Lark Farm.

“The development makes efficient use of land immediately adjacent to the existing farmyard, consolidating activity around established built form rather than dispersing development into open countryside.

“The structures are modest in height, reversible in nature and subordinate to the agricultural enterprise, ensuring that the development remains compatible with its rural setting.”

A decision on the application is due to be made by North Norfolk District Council at a later date.
