Russell Brand went viral Friday after an awkward interview with Piers Morgan, who asked him to cite a Bible passage he read in court \u2014 resulting in over a minute of dead air as the embattled comedian failed to find it.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan I go back to asking a question about your Bible?\u201d Morgan asked during Friday\u2019s episode of \u201cPiers Morgan Uncensored.\u201d \u201cWas that the one you took into court? Okay. What was your thinking of taking it into court and \u2014 you were seen looking at some passages \u2014 what were the relevant passages for you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Brand \u2014 who was observed holding a copy of the Bible in February while pleading not guilty to new charges of rape and sexual assault\u00a0\u2014 thanked Morgan for the question and began flipping through the holy book, all while muttering to himself about needing to be \u201cchill.\u201d <\/p>\n

Yet, the controversial celebrity appeared to struggle to find a passage, but noted it was from Isaiah. \u201cIt says here \u2026 the verse that I was looking at that day was \u2013 not this. I can\u2019t actually find the verse that I had that day, but this is good enough,\u201d Brand noted as Morgan looked silently on. \u201cThis is from Isaiah 12. \u2018I will praise you, Lord. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t take long for this moment to be clipped and put on the internet, with many calling the exchange \u201cpainful\u201d and \u201cawkward.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBrutal,\u201d one X user commented<\/a>. \u201cHow do you even recover from this?\u201d Another chimed<\/a> in with, \u201cThis is so painful to watch. Piers Morgan asked Russell Brand to read the passages that were relevant to him when he brought his Bible into court.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third added<\/a>: \u201cWhat followed may be one of the most painfully awkward exchanges you\u2019ll see this week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet, a fourth got a real chuckle out of the editing from Morgan\u2019s team, writing<\/a>, \u201cCameraman was absolute legend for the split screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brand is currently waiting to begin a trial for rape and sexual assault overseas. He was initially charged with five counts of rape and sexual assault against four women in April 2025: two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault. The comedian was later charged with\u00a0an additional count each<\/a>\u00a0of rape and sexual assault in December, which he pleaded not guilty to.<\/p>\n

The investigation began in September 2023 when his\u00a0alleged victims publicly spoke out<\/a>\u00a0about incidents that supposedly took place between 2006 and 2013 (the two newer charges are for incidents that allegedly took place in 2009).<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always told you guys that when I was young and single before I had my wife and family \u2014 who are just out of shot over there, my beautiful children \u2014 I was a fool, man. I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord,\u201d Brand said in a video message at the time of the allegations. \u201cI was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile \u2014 but what I never was a rapist. I\u2019ve never engaged in non-consensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trial is set for Oct. 12 after being postponed back in March.<\/p>\n
