Ringo Starr<\/a> has admitted to believing that Roger Daltrey was \u201ccrazy\u201d for letting go of Starr\u2019s son and long-term The Who drummer, Zak Starkey, last year.<\/p>\n Last June, The Who hit the headlines after Daltrey and Pete Townshend decided to let go of Starkey. They then denied firing the musician, claiming instead that he had been \u201cretired\u201d so he could work on other projects. Starkey deemed this \u201ctotal bollocks\u201d. <\/p>\n In an interview with USA Today<\/a>, Starr was asked about his perspective on the chaotic career re-shuffle for his son.<\/p>\n \u201cI did talk to him quite a bit through that,\u201d the Beatle shared. \u201cHe was just having one of those moments we all have. You\u2019ve done something that wasn\u2019t really a cool thing to do, and now I know that.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, rather mysteriously, \u201cI didn\u2019t know that then; I just thought Roger (Daltrey) was being crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n The drummer added, \u201cZak was not in a good space, but he\u2019s in a much better space now, and I\u2019d like to tell you and everyone else he\u2019s back to being himself.\u201d<\/p>\n Starkey\u2019s exit from the band seemed to arise out of a The Who performance at London\u2019s Royal Albert Hall<\/a>, when they played \u2018The Song is Over,\u2019 and Starkey came in with the percussion section \u201ca bar early\u201d.<\/p>\n Eventually, Starkey admitted that he doesn\u2019t hold Daltrey or Townshend personally accountable for his removal: \u201cI blame The Who because they\u2019re unpredictable, aggressive and fucking insane<\/a>,\u201d he shared at the time. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why I love them.\u201d<\/p>\n Starr\u2019s new interview was in support of his latest album, Long Long Road,<\/a>\u00a0which received a happy three-and-a-half-star review from\u00a0Far Out: \u201cContrary to popular belief, Ringo isn\u2019t exclusively a human peace-sign meme at this stage of his life. It has indeed been a \u201clong, long road,\u201d and the thing worth celebrating is that an 85-year-old man with all the money in the world still enjoys that old-timey Americana music enough to make more of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
