Brynamman RFC have called off their remaining matches of the season following the death of their vice-captain Harri Morgan.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, Wales captain Jac Morgan announced that his cousin Harri, someone he viewed as his “best friend”, had passed away suddenly earlier in the week<\/a>.<\/p>\n Morgan penned an emotional tribute to Harri on social media, saying: “This week I suddenly lost my cousin and best friend Harri. He meant the world to us as a family. He loved so much about life, but his greatest joy was playing rugby for Brynamman.<\/p>\n “Yesterday I played my game [for the Ospreys<\/a> against the Sharks] in honour and memory of Harri. It felt important to go out there and make him proud, playing the game that he loved.”<\/p>\n JOIN OUR WALES RUGBY FACEBOOK PAGE Latest news, analysis and much more<\/a><\/p>\n Harri’s club have now made the difficult decision to not fulfil their final two games of the season, against Pencoed RFC and Aberavon Quins RFC respectively.<\/p>\n They added they applied for “exceptional circumstances” to be able to play them after the regular campaign had ended but that their request could not be granted.<\/p>\n Brynamman currently sit mid-table in Division 2 West Central, with Aberavon Quins top of the table and Pencoed pushing for promotion.<\/p>\n “To our members, supporters and the wider rugby community,” the club’s statement began, which was published on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n “After much consideration, we have made the very difficult decision that we will not fulfil our final two fixtures against Pencoed RFC and Aberavon Quins RFC.<\/p>\n “Following the tragic loss of our vice-captain, Harri, we requested exceptional circumstances to allow these fixtures to be played after the official season close date of May 2nd. Unfortunately, this request could not be granted, and as a result we are not in a position to play these matches.<\/p>\n “This decision has not been taken lightly. At this time, the welfare of our players, along with Harri\u2019s friends, family and loved ones, must come first.<\/p>\n “We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Pencoed RFC and Aberavon Quins RFC, both of whom have shown tremendous compassion, understanding and support throughout this horrendous time. We are incredibly grateful.<\/p>\n “We do intend to hold some form of fixture on May 9th ahead of presentation day, and we will share further details on that in due course.<\/p>\n “We also want to thank everyone who has supported the club over these past few weeks. The messages, kindness and solidarity have meant more than words can say. Diolch from all of us.”<\/p>\n A fundraiser has been set up in Harri’s memory, with his brothers Cerith and Ifan, among others, set to run Swansea<\/a> Half Marathon later this year.
