As a precaution and to prioritise the safety of pupils and staff the school implemented a perimeter lockdown. This meant that no one was permitted to enter or leave the school site during the afternoon. The perimeter lockdown is due to be lifted at the end of the school day and a visible police presence will remain in place while pupils leave the site. Students will leave school at the normal end of the school day. At all times the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff has been our absolute priority. Lessons have continued as normal, pupils have remained supervised throughout, and we are grateful for the calm, responsible way students conducted themselves during the afternoon. We will continue to work closely with the police and will provide further updates if necessary. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Today15:45 BST

New statement from police

Dyfed-Powys Police have release an update following the school lockdown.

Dyfed-Powys Police is dealing with an incident at Brecon High School today.
