A star of singing competition The Voice, who also founded a charity to help women battling cancer, has died aged only 24 following a horror car crash, his charity have announced<\/p>\n

A star of The Voice<\/a> has died aged 24 after being involved in a car crash. Dylan Carter, who was on the show in 2023, died after the crash, which happened on Saturday (25 April) in South Carolina<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dylan’s death was announced by his charity, The Local Voice. The nonprofit, co-founded by the star, was created to help women battling cancer.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the charity<\/a> said: “With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community. Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen.<\/p>\n

According to WCBD<\/a>, Dylan died on Saturday following a car crash in Colleton County, just over an hour outside Charleston. The 24-year-old was due to perform at the Town on Moncks Cormer’s ‘Music on Main’ event on 27 April. The event has since been cancelled.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson confirmed to The Sun<\/a> that the crash happened on a motorway and that one person was killed in “a single car accident”.<\/p>\n

Dylan was originally from St George, a town in South Carolina’s Dorchester County. He competed on the 24th season of NBC’s The Voice. During his audition, all four judges turned their chair for his performance and he chose to join Reba McEntire’s team.<\/p>\n

This was not his first time auditioning for the reality TV show. He told News 2 that he had auditioned for it twice before. The performance that finally got him on the show was a cover of ‘I Look To You’ by Whitney Houston. He sang it as a tribute to his mother, Julie, who had died in 2022, the year before he went on the show.<\/p>\n

The singer told the publication that he also tried to sing the song at his mother’s funeral, but could not complete it because he was too emotional. He later said he felt her presence with him when he sang it on The Voice.<\/p>\n

“I felt my mom with me. I heard her, but then walking off that stage and after hearing and seeing them all turn, I just, my confidence grew,\u201d he said. \u201cI felt on top of the world<\/a>. It was crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

After being on The Voice, Dylan continued to perform in South Carolina, particularly at fundraiser events for The Local Voice. The charity uses money raised to provide financial assistance to women in South Carolina who are fighting cancer. Away from singing and the charity, he worked as a realtor and co-owner of an RV park and campground.<\/p>\n

His sister-in-law, Stephanie Harper, shared a tribute to Dylan. She said on Facebook<\/a>: “\u201cWake us up from this nightmare. Life will never be the same without my best friend. Will miss you forever Dyl.”<\/p>\n
