Sarah FrewThe fire has taken hold of a building near a BP garage and a Tesco Sarah Frew<\/p>\nThe Tesco Superstore in Uddingston has been evacuated after a fire broke out at a nearby car garage on Monday.<\/p>\n
Customers have been asked to leave the premises on Bothwell Road while emergency services tackle the flames ripping through the neighbouring building.<\/p>\n
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said it was called to a \u201cwell-developed\u201d fire in the area just after 6pm.<\/p>\n
Footage on social media showed large plumes of smoke billowing from the building.<\/p>\n
Six appliances, along with one high-reach vehicle, are in attendance<\/p>\n
No casualties were reported.<\/p>\n
One eyewitness told STV News that they could hear \u201cloud bangs\u201d and \u201cwindows smashing\u201d as the blaze burst through the roof.<\/p>\n
They said: \u201cIt was just smoking when I arrived, came out of Tesco to flames. All Tesco has been evacuated. Roads are closed, and five fire engines are there.\u201d<\/p>\n

A BP petrol station located close to the scene has also been evacuated<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: \u201cEmergency services are in attendance following a fire at a premises on Bothwell Road, Uddingston.<\/p>\n
\u201cBothwell Road is closed in both directions at Main Street, Douglas Gardens and Old Glasgow Road. Local diversions are in place.<\/p>\n
\u201cMembers of the public are asked to avoid the area at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
Tesco has also been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n
