Fans of the soap know that Bear recently killed his captor Ray as part of his harrowing modern slavery storyline. After confessing to the murder, Bear is now awaiting trial.

With court scenes set to air on Emmerdale from Monday 4 May, a press release teases: “Bear Wolf killed his captor Ray and is in the dock charged with murder but will the court understand what drove this man to kill?

“After months trapped in modern slavery and pushed to the limits Bear protected his son Paddy and young Dylan from Ray’s grip. But will his day in court go his way?”

Bear isn’t the only one facing trial, with Paddy and Dylan also up for charges for perverting the course of justice after they were found to have attempted to cover up Bear’s actions.

Speaking about his upcoming trial, Bear actor Joshua Richards said that “trouble does lie ahead” for his character, though he would love to remain on the soap.

“If they want me to stay, I’d love to stay forever. I have no plans to retire. Emmerdale is, to quote Forrest Gump, like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get next,” he said in an interview with the Mirror.

“You also get to climb so many different mountains and it is a lot of fun. But trouble does lie ahead for Bear.”

“You don’t know what the court will do and whether they will trip him up or not. I know Bear wouldn’t cope in prison. He doesn’t like that environment. He’s not a criminal,” he said.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
