In 2025, sales of vinyl in the UK grew 13.3% YoY to 7.6 million, marking their 18th consecutive year of growth, while CD sales fell\u00a07.6%\u00a0to\u00a09.7 million, according to <a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/uk-audio-music-stream-volume-topped-210-billion-in-2025-but-growth-slowed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">data<\/a> from BPI in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Neil Gibbons, COO of <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Key Production [9 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/key-production\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Key Production<\/a> Group, the UK\u2019s largest physical music manufacturing agency, said in January: \u201cThe core audience has shifted even beyond Gen Z now as fans build deeper connections with artists by listening to whole albums and collecting multiple formats.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a class=\"link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/ipo.blog.gov.uk\/2025\/04\/10\/spinning-lies-the-rise-of-fake-vinyl-and-how-industry-is-fighting-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">According to<\/a> the UK\u2019s Intellectual Property Office in April last year, counterfeit records, also called \u201cfake\u201d records, \u201cdeceive vinyl collectors and financially harm hard-working artists and the music ecosystem that supports them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The office said fake versions of popular records are sometimes priced at as high as \u00a31,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Kim Bayley, CEO of <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link-relationship\" title=\"Companies &gt; Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) [59 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/companies\/entertainment-retailers-association-era\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ERA<\/a>, the UK trade body that hosts Record Store Day, said at the time: \u201cVinyl\u2019s 17-year return to prominence has sadly inspired counterfeiters and fraudsters to attempt to cash in on music fan\u2019s rediscovery of the format.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cRetailers feel this particularly hard since they have been the drivers of the vinyl revival, and vinyl is still a lifeline for most independent stores.
