\n\tJames Marsden<\/a> is returning to his \u201cX-Men<\/a>\u201d roots in Marvel\u2019s upcoming \u201cAvengers: Doomsday<\/a>,\u201d which is set to feature the actor alongside several of his original cast members from 20th Century Fox\u2019s \u201cX-Men\u201d film franchise. Marsden told Vanity Fair<\/a> that filming \u201cDoomsday\u201d has been a \u201cblast\u201d and a \u201chomecoming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was excited because you\u2019re a part of something gigantic, and I\u2019ve spent 20 years listening to people say, \u2018When are you coming back? When are you coming back? Are you coming back?’\u201d Marsden said. \u201cI\u2019m dead. Well, maybe not. I\u2019m going to have a tough time struggling to get into costume if they waited a couple more years. So it\u2019s been a blast. It really has.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been a nice little homecoming to a role that really put me on the map,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt was the first real event project that I was ever a part of, and a very beloved character, this icon from the comics. And so to step back into that role was pretty special.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMarsden debuted as Scott Summers\/Cyclops in 2000\u2019s \u201cX-Men\u201d and reprised the role in 2003\u2019s \u201cX2: X-Men United\u201d and 2006\u2019s \u201cX-Men: The Last Stand.\u201d The character was killed off in the latter film, as Marsden moved on to film \u201cSuperman Returns.\u201d But now Cyclops is back for \u201cDoomsday,\u201d although the logistics of his return remain under wraps.<\/p>\n

\n\tJoining Marsden in \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d are his \u201cX-Men\u201d co-stars Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique). It\u2019s also unknown at this time whether or not all these actors will carry over into the sequel, \u201cAvengers: Secret Wars.\u201d The only thing known for sure is that Marvel is intending to reboot the X-Men <\/a>with a cast of younger actors in a post-\u201cAvengers\u201d movie directed by \u201cThunderbolts\u201d helmer Jake Schreier.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYeah, I think that\u2019s fair to say,\u201d Schreier told \u00a0The Playlist<\/a> last month when asked if Marvel\u2019s new take on the X-Men will be \u201crecognizably different from what came before,\u201d adding as a joke, \u201cThere\u2019s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know.\u201d<\/p>\n
