When it comes to some of the best superhero castings of all-time, one of the first names that comes to mind is Robert Downey Jr.<\/a> as Iron Man. However, another that should be considered on the same level is Ryan Reynolds<\/a>\u2019 casting as Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth, who first starred in a solo movie 10 years ago. Reynolds played a different version of the character years prior in X-Men Origins: Wolverine<\/a>, but it wasn\u2019t until Deadpool<\/a> in 2016 that he was allowed to bring a more faithful iteration to the screen. Deadpool has since become one of the most popular superheroes in the world, with his most recent film grossing over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever.<\/p>\n

Still, despite the colossal success of Deadpool & Wolverine<\/a> in 2024, his future in the MCU<\/a> is uncertain. Avengers: Doomsday<\/a> is now less than eight months away from release, and it\u2019s still unclear if Reynolds\u2019 Deadpool is going to have a role in the film \u2014 most are expecting him and Hugh Jackman<\/a>\u2019s Wolverine to appear in some capacity, though. Collider\u2019s Steve Weintraub<\/a> recently spoke with Reynolds to chat about Season 5 of his FX docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham<\/a>, which arrives on May 14. When Weintraub asked if he could share anything new on the Deadpool front, Reynolds told Collider:<\/p>\n

\u201cBriefly, because I’m sure we don’t have much time, I’ve talked to Marvel off and on, always. We have a really great relationship, you know? It’s always a conversation. I’m always just looking to be additive and help on anything, even if it’s not a movie I\u2019m in. And I’m always writing. I mean, it’s how I kind of get it out of my system. I love writing. That character and that world is one in which anything is possible, and that in and of itself allows for so much freedom and storytelling.\u201d<\/p>\n

Continuing, Reynolds confirmed, \u201cI have a few things written that I love. I don\u2019t know. We\u2019ll figure out when the time is right. I\u2019m not in any huge rush right now to do anything.\u201d He also admits that he believes \u201cDeadpool works best on both scarcity and surprise, so jumping right back into it full on right now is probably something I\u2019m not going to do.\u201d He wrapped things up by praising the team at Marvel<\/a>, which is spearheaded by CEO Kevin Feige<\/a>, \u201cI gotta say, that Marvel team, those guys have been incredible, all of them, and I\u2019m really, really lucky to have the opportunity to work with them the way I have, as intimately as I have.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Ryan Reynolds\u2019 Deadpool is going to have a role in Avengers: Doomsday, and it\u2019s just being kept under wraps, he would be far from the only mutant to appear in the film.
