Late-night hosts roasted King Charles<\/a>\u2019s state visit<\/a> and Donald Trump<\/a> trying to push the cost of his $400m gilded ballroom<\/a> on to taxpayers.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

Tuesday was \u201canother weird day\u201d, said Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> on his most recent show. \u201cThere\u2019s so much nonsense \u2013 and I mean that in a very literal sense of the word: non-sense happening. And at the same time, there are also so many awful and scary and flat-out unbelievable things going on. The world has been turned upside down, mostly for no good reason.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so today we got a visitor, one of the very few people who might actually be able to tip things even slightly in a positive direction.\u201d That would be King Charles, in town with Queen Camilla for a rare state visit.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump has a particular affinity for the royal family, and so in Washington, they pulled out all the stops to welcome the king and queen,\u201d Kimmel noted before footage of Washington streets accidentally lined with the Australian flag instead of the union jack. \u201cSomehow, they screw everything up,\u201d Kimmel laughed. \u201cThere\u2019s a literal false flag operation going on there.\u201d<\/p>\n

In prepared remarks to welcome the royals, Trump mentioned his mother Mary McLeod, a Scottish immigrant who was married to his father Fred Trump for 63 years. \u201cThat\u2019s a record we won\u2019t be able to match, darling,\u201d Trump then said to his wife, Melania Trump<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, it\u2019s just not going to work out that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWait a minute \u2026 did he just make a joke about his death? My God. You should be fired for that,\u201d Kimmel marveled, just days after Trump and Melania called for him to be fired<\/a> over his joke<\/a> that the first lady glowed \u201clike an expectant widow\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly Donald Trump would demand I be fired for making a joke about his old age, and then a day later go out and make a joke about his own old age,\u201d Kimmel added.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust when you think they\u2019ve hit peak ridiculous making a big thing out of this joke, they then top themselves and charge \u2013 criminally charge! \u2013 former FBI director Jim Comey, who Trump doesn\u2019t like because he did his job and investigated him.\u201d The Trump administration formerly charged Comey with obstruction of justice and making a false statement, both of which were tossed from court. This week, they charged him with threatening the president\u2019s life for posting a photo on Instagram of seashells on the beach spelling out \u201c86 47\u201d with the caption \u201ccool shell formation on my beach walk\u201d.<\/p>\n

The image could be interpreted as \u201c86ing\u201d (the restaurant term to throw something out) the 47th president, but \u201cTrump\u2019s pets in the DoJ are claiming this is some sort of threat or call to violence\u201d, Kimmel explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven he should be embarrassed by this,\u201d he added. \u201cThat is not a threat. That is a piece of art your aunt with a beach house would buy on Etsy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Show<\/p>\n

On the Daily Show, Josh Johnson dug into more fallout from the White House correspondents\u2019 dinner<\/a> shooting over the weekend, which shook up the DC elite though resulted in no injuries. \u201cFirst of all, terrible week for light-skinned dudes,\u201d Johnson said next to a photo of the suspected attacker, Cole Allen<\/a>, handcuffed and prone on a hotel room floor. \u201cYou had this guy going for the president and chewing carpet, Klay Thompson cheating on Megan Thee Stallion \u2026 no pressure but Drake, this album\u2019s gotta be fire. It\u2019s all on you.\u201d (The Canadian rapper\u2019s next album, Ice Man, comes out in May.)<\/p>\n

\u201cBut that was just my takeaway,\u201d Johnson continued. \u201cRepublicans had another, somehow dumber takeaway.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson then played clips of Republican senators who have used the thwarted attack as momentum to push legislation to fund Trump\u2019s proposed gilded $400m ballroom with taxpayer money. \u201cFour hundred million dollars?! That\u2019s our money!\u201d Johnson fumed. \u201cWhy do we have to pay for this? We didn\u2019t try to shoot the president!<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the administration that is obsessed with government waste,\u201d he continued. \u201cI can\u2019t believe they dissolved Doge right before Trump demanded a $400m ballroom. It\u2019s like how the Michael Jackson movie ended right before he starts molesting. You just went ahead and skipped all the important stuff, huh?<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in such a crazy time now that events don\u2019t even need to be connected to each other,\u201d he added. \u201cSomeone tried to kill the president, so now we\u2019re going to build a ballroom!\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson, at least, wasn\u2019t that surprised. \u201cHonestly, as soon as I heard about the ballroom, I knew we would end up paying for it,\u201d he said. \u201cTrump is the type of dude to wine and dine you, and then forget his wallet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> also touched on King Charles\u2019s state visit to the White House \u201cin honor of America\u2019s 250th anniversary, as well as the 280th anniversary of their hands\u201d, he joked next to photos of their very old-looking hands.<\/p>\n

Sunday marked Melania Trump\u2019s 56th birthday, which her husband did not acknowledge on any of his personal social media accounts. \u201cLook, it was a crazy weekend,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cI would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was too busy if he hadn\u2019t found time to congratulate Lee Greenwood on the birth of his grandchild\u201d in a post on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd apparently the baby is already sick of that song,\u201d he added of the God Bless the USA singer.<\/p>\n
