If you needed another crime drama to sink your teeth into after binge-watching The Cage then fear not, because ITV has you covered.

And you’ll wish you could quite literally bite into this one too. A Taste for Murder is set in Italy with drool-worthy food to match – DCI Joe Mottram’s parents-in-law are the owners of a beachside family restaurant, sharing their recipes with him and his teenage daughter, Angelica, when they come to stay for some much needed TLC following his wife and Angelica’s mum’s death.

Alas, similarly to how just as you sit down to enjoy a meal the doorbell goes or the dog kicks off, DCI Mottram is far from allowed easy respite, his trip to Capri interrupted when a murder case crops up.

But if you catch yourself eyeing up a visit to one of the locations you’re set to see on-air tonight on ITV for a cheeky last-minute getaway, we have you covered.

Just because the drama is set in the luxurious, sun-soaked island of Capri surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea in Italy, that doesn’t necessarily mean all the scenes were filmed in that exact location either…

Where was A Taste for Murder filmed?

The six-part series was partially filmed in the location the drama is set in Capri, a lush Italian island located in the Bay of Naples featuring dramatic cliffs and studded with coves.

Other Italian locations reportedly included Naples, the capital of Campania in the south of Italy. Naples is known as the birth place of pizza – add that to your pub quiz knowledge – and features a bustling atmosphere. Filming also took place in the vibrant Naples neighbourhood of Marianella, according to Prime Timer.

However, Italy wasn’t actually the show’s main location, despite the action being set in it, with much of the filming for A Taste for Murder taking place in Croatia.

The areas of Opatija, Volosko and Labin were used in particular. Opatija is a coastal town dubbed the “Pearl of the Adriatic” sea, dotted with picturesque villas and pebby coves. We even spotted flights online to Opatija from London for a mere £37…

Volosko is part of Opatija, specifically a fishing village within the town known for showcasing some exquisite restaurants. And Labin? A town in Istria featuring gorgeous historic buildings and spectacular views from the hilltop.

Where is the Da Vinale’s restaurant? "a"pinterest"

Scenes set in the Da Vinale’s family restaurant were reportedly filmed in Opatija.

Series producer Jo McGrath reflected, as quoted by Country and Town House: “The moment the team came back from the recce and showed us the location, we knew we had a show.

“It’s a beautiful location but abandoned and a little worn. The vista and the view were everything we had envisaged for the show.”

And a fun related fact about the police precinct…

Where is the police precinct?

The location of the Da Vinale family taverna in Opatija reportedly doubled as the location for the show’s police precinct. Handy that.

A Taste of Murder kicks off on ITV tonight, Wednesday, 29th April at 9pm. It’s also available to watch on ITVX.
