The president\u2019s renewed calls for Kimmel\u2019s firing \u2014 and incorrect claims about the late night host\u2019s ratings \u2014come after the comedian\u2019s joke last week suggesting that the First Lady had the glow of an \u201cexpectant widow.\u201d <\/a>Days after the sketch aired, a gunman attempted to storm Saturday night\u2019s White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the aftermath of the shooting, both Donald and Melania Trump have called for Kimmel\u2019s broadcaster, ABC, to take action<\/a> against the comedian, accusing him of sharing violent rhetoric. <\/p>\n The National Religious Broadcasters association then filed a complaint with the FCC<\/a>, saying Kimmel\u2019s remarks<\/a> \u201cwhen viewed in context, raise concerns about the normalization and potential incitement of political violence.\u201d The NRB also requested a \u201cfull and impartial investigation to determine whether federal law or Commission precedent was violated.\u201d<\/p>\n The FCC has since told ABC<\/a> that it must apply to renew its broadcast licenses by May 28.The licenses were not due to expire until 2028. A filing indicated that the early renewal request is related to a previous investigation into the company\u2019s DEI practices.<\/p>\n Kimmel, meanwhile, is under contract with ABC until 2027.<\/p>\n Requests for comment from the FCC and ABC were not immediately answered.<\/p>\n The president\u2019s latest call for Kimmel\u2019s firing comes the morning after the late night host took aim at the Trumps\u2019 relationship, saying the two seem \u201ccloser than ever\u201d after pointing out their awkward hand-holding interaction during King Charles\u2019 visit to the U.S. <\/p>\n The back-and-forth between Kimmel and the Trumps began Monday when Melania responded to last week\u2019s sketch on X and described the talk show host as a \u201ccoward.\u201d<\/p>\n She said: \u201cKimmel\u2019s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn\u2019t comedy \u2013 his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople like Kimmel shouldn\u2019t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.<\/p>\n \u201cEnough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand.
