Gavin Henson

Henson had everything required to become a Welsh great — skill, confidence, and a natural flair for the big occasion, which he showcased during Wales’ 2005 Grand Slam.

Yet as his profile grew, so did the distractions. Injuries disrupted his rhythm, but it was his decision to step away from rugby and embrace a celebrity lifestyle that proved most damaging.

His appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2011 symbolised that shift, as he drifted further from the professional game during what should have been his prime years.

Subsequent comeback attempts with clubs such as Saracens, Toulon, and Cardiff Blues failed to deliver, often ending amid concerns over fitness, sharpness, and long-term commitment.

Ultimately, Henson’s career became defined by interruptions and missed opportunities rather than sustained excellence at the highest level.

Where are they now?
Henson now runs a pub in Wales and has spent time playing lower-league rugby, living a far quieter life away from the intense spotlight he once commanded.

Israel Folau

At his peak, Folau was one of the most dominant and feared players in world rugby, combining aerial brilliance with an exceptional try-scoring instinct.

However, in 2019, his career took a dramatic turn when he posted controversial religious messages on social media, which Rugby Australia deemed a breach of contract.

The situation escalated rapidly into one of the sport’s biggest off-field controversies, culminating in the termination of his contract and a high-profile legal dispute that eventually ended in a confidential settlement.

The fallout brought an abrupt end to his Wallabies career, cutting short his time at the very top of the international game despite his outstanding performances.

While his ability was never in doubt, the controversy permanently altered how his career is remembered.

Where are they now?
Folau has continued his career overseas, including spells in Japan, and has represented Tonga internationally, although he remains far removed from his previous status as a global superstar.
