{"id":560068,"date":"2026-05-01T06:27:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T06:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/560068\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T06:27:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T06:27:18","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-only-has-to-beat-jannik-sinner-while-rafael-nadal-had-tougher-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/560068\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Carlos Alcaraz only has to beat Jannik Sinner while Rafael Nadal had tougher competition&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rafael Nadal\u2019s uncle, former Spain and Barcelona defender Miguel Nadal, says the 22-time Grand Slam winner faced stiffer competition compared to Carlos Alcaraz as he believes the latter has only one true rival in Jannik Sinner.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-major-titles-comparison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated the Grand Slam scene<\/a> the past few years as they have shared the last nine majors on offer with Novak Djokovic the last player not named Alcaraz or Sinner to win one of the four biggest tournaments in tennis and that was back in 2023 at the US Open.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, when Nadal was at his peak, he had to contend with Djokovic and Roger Federer as they dominated men\u2019s tennis, and although they won the majority of big tournaments, they also had other challengers.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Juan Martin del Potro and Marin Cilic also won Grand Slams during the Big Three\u2019s dominant period with Murray also ending their stranglehold on the top spot in the ATP Rankings as he finished the 2016 campaign as the year-end No 1.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/betbrothers.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">BetBrothers<\/a>, Miguel Nadal \u2013 who won five La Liga titles with Barcelona and was capped 62 times for Spain \u2013 asserted that Alcaraz has it easier than his nephew.<\/p>\n<p>ATP Features<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner-goat-federer-nadal-djokovic-comparison\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner told they are \u2018not in the same bracket\u2019 as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/carlos-alcaraz-injury-jannik-sinner-boring\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carlos Alcaraz\u2019s wrist injury has handed tennis a huge problem \u2013 and Jannik Sinner could make it worse<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are talking about a player who has everything with Carlos Alcaraz. He has a great serve, a great forehand, a backhand, a powerful physique, he is fast and he handles pressure,\u201d he said. \u201cOne positive aspect is that the competition is currently quite low.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday the only player who casts a shadow over Alcaraz is Sinner. In Rafael\u2019s time there was Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Ferrer. With all those players you could face them in the quarter-finals or even the first round and they could eliminate you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, in Alcaraz\u2019s case, there is a big difference. I don\u2019t see a wide group of players who have options to win a Grand Slam. I think he is a player who will win many Grand Slams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz won his seventh major title when he beat Djokovic in this year\u2019s Australian Open final and Migual Nadal feels he can easily aim for more than 20 Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p>Nadal added: \u201cHe has the advantage of aiming for 20, 22, 23 Grand Slams. It is very complicated because it requires minimum consistency and mental strength to suffer a not very high wear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see it as difficult, but it could be possible.
