{"id":560348,"date":"2026-05-01T10:20:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T10:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/560348\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T10:20:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T10:20:10","slug":"gansey-girl-mural-celebrates-bridlingtons-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/560348\/","title":{"rendered":"Gansey girl mural celebrates Bridlington&#8217;s past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The second mural, on Prince Street, by the harbour, shows a traditional coble boat struggling in huge waves, as well as a puffin, gannets and a lobster.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Great Gale of 1871, which struck Bridlington Bay, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cevelm8d08vo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">claimed the lives of 70 sailors<\/a>, including a lifeboat crew.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Porter said he was inspired to paint the specific style of boat after asking local people what they would like to see. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Angela Merrills, from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: &#8220;We carried out some public engagement and asked residents to tell us what they&#8217;d like to see.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;As a result of that, Sam has created these amazing murals. He&#8217;s absolutely exceeded our expectations.
