(WLOS) \u2014 EpiPen users could soon pay less out of pocket for the life-saving injections.<\/p>\n<p><p>(WLOS)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the North Carolina Attorney General\u2019s Office announced an $11 million settlement with Mylan, the exclusive distributor of EpiPen auto-injectors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe company that sells them, we believe, was breaking the law to keep prices high,\u201d said NC Attorney General Jeff Jackson in a video statement.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Mylan\u2019s price for a two-pack went from $100 to $600 between 2007 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/north-carolina-attorney-general-jeff-jackson-governor-josh-stein-reccommented-budget-support-2026-2027-fiscal-budget-public-safety-workforce-development-healthcare-teacher-pay-general-assembly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NC ATTORNEY GENERAL VOICES SUPPORT OF GOV. STEIN&#8217;S NEWLY PROPOSED BUDGET<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jackson says it was able to do that by using the patent system to delay competitors from getting to the market, along with misleading marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaking misleading claims about the cheaper generic versions that did exist. (Credit: Attorney General Jeff Jackson&#8217;s Office)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He added that the settlement money will be split up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith a chunk of money going back to state taxpayers because a lot of these EpiPens were purchased with state money for people who would not have otherwise been able to afford them,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the settlement, the company has also agreed to lower out-of-pocket costs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/nc-ag-jeff-jackson-urges-nc-supreme-court-on-counterfeit-vape-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NC AG JEFF JACKSON URGES NC SUPREME COURT ACTION ON COUNTERFEIT VAPE PRODUCTS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, they can no longer block cheaper options, they\u2019re making a big payment, and out-of-pocket costs will be lower going forward,\u201d Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>Of the $11 million settlement, the state health plan and North Carolina Medicaid will each receive $4.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson says he hopes the settlement sets a precedent by putting other drug companies on notice, too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we have evidence they are breaking the law, we are going to hold them accountable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ASHEVILLE, N.C.
