Opening in May 2027, the show will bring together a personal selection of works that aim to challenge conventional ideas on what art can and should be, and will encourage attendees to nurture their own creativity.<\/p>\n

When announcing the \u2018Hodge Podge\u2019 show, the Hepworth said it would invite \u201cunlikely conversations and interesting encounters\u201d between artists, including Jeremy Deller, Peter Doig, Barbara Hepworth, Klara Kristalova, Emma Kunz, Mark Leckey, and Agnes Pelton, as well as unknown outsider artists whose works have never featured in UK museums.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve chosen works that have stuck with us over the years,\u201d Cocker told The Guardian <\/a>of the show. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to encourage people to realise that they have creativity within them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The museum has also said that the exhibition reflects the couple\u2019s interest in alternative means of expression, class, and the way communities band together. Cocker explained that while it\u2019s always been important that people express themselves, the ever-increasing automation of the creative industries meant it was \u201cespecially so now, when you can have other things to do it for you\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no other alternative being espoused except capitalism,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd capitalism is all about consuming things and buying things. That\u2019s how you prove your worth as a citizen. But we weren\u2019t born as capitalists, we were born as creative creatures. We\u2019re trying to take people back to the Garden of Eden, basically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cocker and Sion will explore alternative spiritualities, psychedelia, fandom, dreams, poetry and music, and the exhibition also includes an immersive Dreamachine \u2013 a flickering light device co-invented by Brion Gysin and Ian Sommerville nack in the \u201950s.<\/p>\n

Designed to be viewed with closed eyes, it is intended to induce vivid visual patterns and altered states of consciousness.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody sees different things,\u201d Cocker said of the device. \u201cGysin was apparently in the back of a car driving down an avenue with trees, and the sun shining through the trees made this kind of flickering effect and sent him into a funny state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creative consultant Sion said when the couple met 18 years ago, their first conversation was about \u201cliving in the moment and being true to yourself\u201d, adding that it was \u201csuch a big part of us\u201d.<\/p>\n

She also said she hoped that young people would visit next year, and reflecting on her own creative upbringing. \u201cWhen I was a child, my father was hugely into contemporary art, and used to take me to the Camden Arts Centre and lots of exhibitions,\u201d she said. \u201cA lot of it wasn\u2019t well-known or established artists, but I remember so many of the pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Cocker discussed the need to creative rather than consume, he said it was the thing that separated humans from animals \u2013 [that]\u00a0we\u2019re able to look at the world and create things based on our experiences of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

On that note, Cocker had teased that Pulp \u201cmight write some more songs\u201d together last year<\/a>. The update came after his bandmates\u00a0Nick Banks and Candida Doyle told\u00a0NME\u00a0that they were \u201cnot itching\u201d to make another new album<\/a>. \u201cAn EP, maybe, or a single,\u201d Doyle added.<\/p>\n

When pressed by\u00a0NME\u00a0on a proper follow-up to \u2018More\u2019<\/a>, Cocker replied:\u00a0\u201cMaybe. We tried to not have a concept for this record or think, \u2018This is it, this is our last gas\u2019. I used to think that a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had this weird thing that when an album was mixed and finished where I\u2019d think, \u2018Oh, I can die now and it would be OK\u2019. That\u2019s a terrible way to think about your life, really.
