Jannik Sinner said the surge of adrenaline that comes with \u2060big matches had helped him push through mounting fatigue after the Italian reached his maiden Madrid \u200cfinal following another deep run in a packed season.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old has \u200chad a near non-stop schedule over the \u200cpast two months, reaching the closing rounds in tournaments as \u200cthe circuit moved from hardcourts to the clay \u200cseason, winning titles at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo.<\/p>\n

“I’ve played a lot in the last one and a \u200chalf months, going very deep in tournaments,” \u2060Sinner<\/a> told reporters \u200cafter defeating Arthur Fils<\/a> 6-2 6-4<\/a> in the Madrid semi-finals \u200bon Friday.<\/p>\n

“It’s a good sign, of course, and at the same time you tend to \u200bget a little bit more tired.<\/p>\n

“I think and I believe, when I play big matches, semi-finals, quarter-finals, \u2060finals, there’s also \u200ba little bit of adrenaline that pushes me.”<\/p>\n

Victory over Alexander Zverev<\/a> in Madrid on Sunday would hand Sinner a fifth successive Masters 1000 title going back to \u200cParis last year and further underline his strong start to the clay season, with the French Open beginning on May 24.<\/p>\n

With defending Roland Garros champion Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> ruled out due to a wrist injury, world number one Sinner will be the top contender in Paris, where he can complete the career Grand Slam, having won the Australian Open, U.S. Open \u200cand Wimbledon.<\/p>\n

For now, however, Sinner’s focus remains on \u200bMadrid and next week’s Italian Open in Rome.<\/p>\n

“I’m \u200cof course very happy to play my first final here. It means a lot to me … whatever (happens) on Sunday, it has been a great tournament,” Sinner said.<\/p>\n
