Rudy Giuliani<\/a>, former mayor of New York City<\/a>, has been hospitalised and is in a \u201ccritical but stable condition\u201d, his spokesperson said on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n

Ted Goodman, the spokesperson, posted on social media: \u201cMayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he\u2019s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America\u2019s Mayor Rudy Giuliani<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is unclear why Giuliani, 81, is in hospital or how long he has been there.<\/p>\n

Giuliani hosted his online show, \u201cAmerica\u2019s Mayor Live\u201d, on Friday night from Florida<\/a>, but said his voice was \u201ca little under the weather\u201d.<\/p>\n

Giuliani garnered acclaim for his response to the 11 September 2001 al-Qaida attack on New York<\/a> City, earning the nickname \u201cAmerica\u2019s mayor\u201d.<\/p>\n

He later worked as an attorney for Donald Trump<\/a> in his failed efforts to overturn<\/a> the results<\/a> of the 2020 election, an effort that led to criminal charges against Giuliani in two US states and a defamation lawsuit<\/a> from election workers. Giuliani has denied wrongdoing in the criminal cases. Trump pardoned<\/a> Giuliani after he faced criminal charges for his efforts to help try to overturn the 2020 election.<\/p>\n

Trump, on his social media platform Truth Social, praised his former attorney: \u201cOur fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition,\u201d he wrote on Sunday. He went on to say, without evidence, that Giuliani had been \u201cright about everything\u201d and that Democrats \u201cdid anything possible to destroy our nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!\u201d<\/p>\n
