Over the weekend, M.I.A.<\/a> drew massive boos\u00a0during her opening set in Dallas on\u00a0Kid Cudi\u2019s \u201cThe Rebel Ragers Tour\u201d<\/a> after claiming she was \u201ccanceled\u201d after becoming a Republican and making controversial remarks about potential \u201cillegal\u201d immigrants in the audience.<\/p>\n

According to two separate reddit<\/a> posts<\/a> about the May 2nd show at Dos Equis Pavilion, the \u201cPaper Planes\u201d singer first commented about the backlash to her being a Republican. Though M.I.A. is likely unable to participate in US elections as a UK citizen, she followed Robert Kennedy Jr.\u2019s lead in 2024 in endorsing Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been canceled for many reasons,\u201d M.I.A. said, according to one redditor. \u201cI never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.\u201d<\/p>\n

As captured in fan-shot videos, M.I.A. was heavily booed and barely audible when she appeared to say, \u201cI can\u2019t do \u2018Illegal,\u2019 though some of you could be in the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the boos became even louder, she tried to win the crowd back by saying, \u201cI\u2019m illegal \u2014 half of my team aren\u2019t here because they couldn\u2019t get their visa.\u201d<\/p>\n

Multiple attendees claimed M.I.A. appeared to then pipe in fake cheers following the rant.<\/p>\n

Best known for the 2007 hit \u201cPaper Planes,\u201d when she sings, \u201cIf you catch me at the border, I got visas in my name,\u201d M.I.A. previously flirted with the anti-vax movement<\/a> in 2020 and launched a clothing line meant to block 5G waves<\/a> in 2024 on Alex Jones\u2019 Infowars.<\/p>\n

She is certainly an odd choice to open for Kid Cudi, who previously told Esquire<\/a> that he \u201ctotally disagree[s]\u201d with his mentor Kanye West\u2019s pro-Trump stance.<\/p>\n
