5. Dan Carter – Crusaders to USA Perpignan (loan, 2008)

The greatest player of the modern era received a rock-star استقبال in the south of France on a €700,000 six-month deal—but it unravelled quickly. Carter played just five games before partially tearing his Achilles tendon in a draw with Stade Français.

4. RG Snyman – Bulls to Munster Rugby (2020)

Cruel rather than poor—but the lack of appearances makes this a major flop in outcome.

3. Chiliboy Ralepelle – Bulls to Stade Toulousain (2013)

Off-field issues derailed everything. A signing that quickly turned sour.

2. Gavin Henson – Ospreys to Saracens F.C. (2010)

All noise, no substance. The circus overshadowed any rugby contribution.

1. Sam Burgess – South Sydney Rabbitohs to Bath Rugby (2014)

The ultimate high-profile misfire. Massive hype, positional confusion, and a short-lived union career make this the standout flop.
