A while ago, Nvidia unveiled its DLSS 5<\/a> upscaling technology, and reactions to the examples provided were very strong.<\/p>\n

Many took issue with the significant changes the AI tool made to a game’s visuals, particularly characters, whose faces appeared to change dramatically.<\/p>\n

Grace Ashcroft of Resident Evil Requiem<\/a> became the main focus of the debate, as hers was an especially clear case; details like her lips, eyes, and hair were completely altered, and many fans hated this AI “glow-up”.<\/p>\n

You might be wondering what Capcom’s take on the situation is; well, Eurogamer<\/a> threw the question at Requiem’s producer, Masato Kumazawa.<\/p>\n

He wasn’t able to comment on the team’s involvement with the DLSS 5 demo, but has taken a positive view of the situation.<\/p>\n

Kumazawa explained “the fact a lot of players commented they really liked the original design of Grace and didn’t want to see it changed was a positive…”<\/p>\n

He added, “It meant we got the design right [and] points to the fact that Grace quickly established herself as a fan favourite, that people had such strong opinions on her design.”<\/p>\n

What’s not made clear is whether Capcom intends to pursue DLSS 5 support for its games going forward. However, the publisher has explained<\/a> its approach to using generative AI tools, and they don’t really align well with what Nvidia’s tech is offering.<\/p>\n

It’s going to be interesting to see how DLSS 5 behaves when it officially launches, and which games will utilise it.<\/p>\n
