{"id":567919,"date":"2026-05-05T19:27:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T19:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/567919\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T19:27:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T19:27:07","slug":"farages-partner-refuses-to-confirm-how-she-paid-for-house-in-his-constituency-nigel-farage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/567919\/","title":{"rendered":"Farage\u2019s partner refuses to confirm how she paid for house in his constituency | Nigel Farage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Nigel Farage\u2019s partner, Laure Ferrari, has refused to confirm how she paid for a house in the Reform leader and MP\u2019s constituency of Clacton, adding \u201cthere\u2019s more than one way to pay for a house\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/m-le-mag\/article\/2026\/05\/03\/laure-ferrari-the-frenchwoman-whispering-in-nigel-farage-s-ear_6753073_117.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview with French publication Le Monde<\/a>, Ferrari was questioned over revelations in the Guardian that she had purchased a house in her name in Clacton after Farage had claimed to be the buyer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Farage initially said the arrangement was for \u201csecurity\u201d reasons. Some months later, he told reporters that Ferrari came from \u201ca very wealthy French family and can afford it\u201d \u2013 although a subsequent BBC investigation raised further questions about the size of her family\u2019s alleged wealth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Quizzed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/le-monde\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Le Monde<\/a> on the issue, the publication said she \u201cdodged\u201d the question. When asked if she bought the property thanks to a family inheritance, she said: \u201cYes and no, that would be a very large inheritance \u2026 There\u2019s more than one way to pay for a house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI can\u2019t say how much my grandmother gave, that\u2019s my business,\u201d Ferrari added. \u201cThe main thing is that I paid all the taxes, there was no tax evasion, and the house is in my name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Following the interview, Labour called on Farage to clarify how the purchase of the property he uses in Clacton was funded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cLast week we discovered that Nigel Farage failed to declare a \u00a35 million donation from a crypto-billionaire and this week we discover that Farage\u2019s partner might not have paid for all of his house in Clacton after all,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe leader of Reform needs to stop dodging scrutiny and urgently answer questions about this purchase \u2026 Farage has failed to be straight with the public over the full facts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2025\/may\/23\/nigel-farage-clacton-home-bought-girlfriend-property\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first reported<\/a> last year that the house in Clacton, which Farage initially said he had bought himself, was in fact wholly owned by Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">While Farage said the ownership structure was for security reasons, Ferrari purchasing the house would have saved the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/brexit-party\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reform UK<\/a> leader an estimated \u00a344,000 in the higher rate of stamp duty to which he would have been liable, given he already owns other properties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He also denied lending or giving his partner money towards the \u00a3885,000 price of the property in Frinton-on-Sea, saying last September: \u201cI haven\u2019t lent money to anybody. I didn\u2019t give her money. She comes from a very successful French family and she can afford it herself. It\u2019s convenient, it works, and she loves it there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The BBC investigation found Ferrari\u2019s father\u2019s haulage business in Strasbourg was liquidated in 2020, and her parents were living in a flat in a suburb of the French city worth about \u00a3300,000, co-owned by the couple and their two daughters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The BBC team said the family also owned the former premises of the haulage company, which is rented out for an estimated \u20ac8,000-\u20ac9,000 (\u00a37,000-\u00a37,800) a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Guardian has contacted Reform for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Ferrari, 46, born in \u00c9pinal in eastern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/france\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France<\/a>, also claimed in the interview that she \u201cencouraged\u201d three key moments in his political career: leaving Ukip, appearing on ITV\u2019s I\u2019m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! and running for parliament in 2024 instead of leaving for the US to campaign for Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">But she insisted that if Farage became prime minister she would not be involved in the UK\u2019s affairs, adding Carrie Johnson, former PM Boris Johnson\u2019s wife, went too far when they were in No 10.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cShe intervened far too much in the country\u2019s affairs,\u201d Ferrari told Le Monde. \u201cIf people elect Nigel Farage, they are not electing Laure Ferrari.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On the likelihood of Farage getting to Downing Street, she said: \u201cI don\u2019t want to tempt fate, but a lot can happen between now and the elections, adding she would look forward to diplomatic events. \u201cI really like ambassador\u2019s dinners, Ferrero Rocher, that sort of thing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Nigel Farage\u2019s partner, Laure Ferrari, has refused to confirm how she paid for a house in the Reform&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":567920,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[59,57,58,50,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-567919","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-united-kingdom","tag-gb","tag-great-britain","tag-greatbritain","tag-news","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/567919","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=567919"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/567919\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/567920"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=567919"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=567919"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=567919"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
