Sam Burgess has offered a cautious update on Warrington Wolves’ injury situation ahead of their Challenge Cup semi-final against Hull KR, with key players still in contention.

Josh Thewlis and Luke Yates could mark their returns for Sunday’s trip to Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium – although Burgess admits the pair “have a bit to get through” in order to prove match fitness.

Forward Yates has been missing through a neck injury, while Lachlan Webster debuted at full-back against Huddersfield Giants in the absence of Thewlis, and the long-term blow to Cai Taylor-Wray. Outside-back Thewlis was described to have a “niggle” post-match.

Captain George Williams (neck) and forward James Harrison (ankle) remain sidelined, while Toafofoa Sipley made a successful return against Huddersfield Giants.

“We’ve not really done too much this week so we don’t have a clear idea yet,” Burgess said when asked about the health of his squad.

“It’s probably not as positive as we thought it would be towards the back end of last week, but we’ve still got four or five days to go so we’ll get a clearer idea as we go on.

“Players like Josh Thewlis and Luke Yates are still in with a shout, but they’ve got a bit to get through first.

“In these games, it’s important that the players are ready to perform. It’s not just about getting to the starting line.

“The good thing is that we’ve got some young lads in there who are ready to go if needed. We’ll prep both ways and we’ll see a bit later in the week.”

An injury update on Warrington Wolves ahead of the Challenge Cup semi-finals. 17:28, 05 May 2026Updated 17:31, 05…

[35
5903,101,56,54,55
post-568003","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-rugby","tag-rugby","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
