Hannah Hardwick and Francesca Sweet both arrive after successful trials and are capable of bowling pace. The ever-reliable Charli Knott has been replaced as overseas by leg-spinning all-rounder Amanda-Jade Wellington – who has previously taken plenty of wickets at Utilita Bowl for Southern Vipers and Southern Brave.

The big question: Will the domestic players step up when the England stars are away? With Maia Bouchier, Lauren Bell, Linsey Smith and Freya Kemp, Hampshire look a seriously impressive side. Without them things could be tricky. Ella McCaughan was exceptional before injury curtailed her 2025. She, Abi Norgrove, Georgia Adams, Rhianna Southby and Naomi Dattani have runs in them – which they will need to ease the pressure on an unproven bowling attack.

Player to watch: Hampshire need a young bowler to step up. After a breakout 2025, Daisy Gibb is tracking in the right direction to be that player. The 20-year-old mainly gained admirers in the Vitality Blast but converting her skiddy swing into 50-over consistency feels a natural next step, and she could be a danger to top-order batters up and down the country.

Final thought: Hampshire followed in the footsteps of their Southern Vipers forebearers in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup last season. Throughout that time, they have always found a way to regenerate and continue their dominant 50-over legacy. After losing key Vipers players, they topped the group stage but lost in the final. This year will need another rebirth, however, a top-four finish will still be the target.

TEAM NEWS

Somerset will be without Emma Corney (knee) and Erin Vukusic (back), whilst Heather Knight, Dani Gibson and Mollie Robbins are all unavailable.

Left-arm seamer, Maddie Russell has been called into the squad from the Academy.

Somerset have named the following squad for this match:

VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Ahead of the match, Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne said: “I think we adapted well in a situation that was quite difficult at Edgbaston. Losing your captain halfway through a fielding innings when you’re yet to bat isn’t ideal, but I thought the way the group handled it, particularly Ruby coming up the order, was impressive. I thought there were some really good signs and we’re having lots of players contribute. We’ve had several different players score a 50 this year, so we just need to start putting it all together now.

“We just need to clean up some areas that we’ve talked about from the Warwickshire game and implement that ahead of the weekend. I think we’re still playing some good cricket, and I don’t think we need to change too much. We’re looking to clean up our fielding but in terms of our batting and bowling, we’re really happy with how it’s going, so we don’t need to rewrite the script.

“Hampshire are a quality team and they’re sitting near the top of the ladder, but everyone seems to be beating everyone else at the moment, so it’s quite an open competition, which is exciting.

“Maddie Russell has joined the squad from the Academy. She’s super talented and works ridiculously hard. I think this will be an awesome experience for her to come into the professional set-up and be around the group.”

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you are planning to attend the match, all the information you need can be found on the official Hampshire CCC Website.

HAMPSHIRE CCC

NEXT MATCH

Somerset’s next match in the Metro Bank One Day Cup is on Wednesday May 13th when we take on The Blaze at The Maer Ground, Exmouth.

Tickets are on sale now.

BUY TICKETS

Metro Bank One Day Cup Preview: Hampshire v Somerset THE MATCH Somerset take on Hampshire at Utilita Bowl…

[34
1721,101,56,54,55
post-568067","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cricket","tag-cricket","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
