Ben Whittaker may be in Florida but the weather says otherwise. \u201cYesterday we were melting in the sun but today we\u2019re pretty much in England,\u201d he says, grinning over video call from Miami. \u201cIt\u2019s raining, there\u2019s thunder, so I think we might have brought the weather with us, which is a shame. But I\u2019m British, I\u2019m used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whittaker, a pro boxer, has jetted into town, courtesy of Givenchy, to attend the Miami Grand Prix (which the very English weather wasn\u2019t able to stop \u2013 Kimi Antonelli<\/a> took out the win). He\u2019s speaking the morning after attending a party celebrating the brand\u2019s new Gentleman Society Sport<\/a> fragrance, alongside F1 driver and the fragrance\u2019s ambassador Pierre Gasly<\/a>. For the night, Whittaker was kitted out in a white linen Givenchy suit that, he was happy to discover, showed off his abs and One Piece<\/a>-inspired chest tattoo: \u201cGood job I\u2019ve not had too many Krispy Kremes.\u201d The superstar boxer was playing it safe and cut the evening short. \u201cI am an athlete at the end of the day so I left before the party actually got crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whittaker would be forgiven for letting his hair down, though. He\u2019s just two weeks out from his latest win, where he handily knocked out opponent Braian Suarez in the first round. Whittaker remains undefeated \u2013\u00a0he\u2019s never lost a fight \u2013 and at his current rate, he\u2019s rocketing towards a world title. How\u2019s he feeling, then? \u201cIt feels good, of course,\u201d he says. \u201cI think any sportsman never wants to lose, but there\u2019s something different about boxing. Winning is something you always keep striving for. I\u2019ve just come off a first round knockout and I looked good doing it. Now I\u2019m in Miami. I can\u2019t complain.\u201d<\/p>\n

The boxing champ certainly did look good at his fight against Suarez, walking out in a custom red leather Montirex jacket and shorts, decorated with a skeleton. Skeletons and exposed bones have become an iconic part of Whittaker\u2019s fashion lore. His nickname, the Surgeon, comes from his methodical, clinical fighting style, but he took it one step further by incorporating skeleton imagery into his ring outfits. It\u2019s also a bit of a good luck charm: \u201cOne of my earlier fights that went crazy online and got all the views was also the first time I wore the skeleton kit, so ever since we\u2019ve just kept running with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whittaker is known for his flamboyance in the ring, often dancing around opponents. He cites his mother as the person who pushed him to perform: \u201cShe always used to say that I was going to be on TV, so I\u2019ve had it instilled in me since I was a kid.\u201d His natural showmanship has developed after years of hard work and he\u2019s always drawn inspiration from the pageantry of WWE<\/a> wrestlers. \u201cThey\u2019re partly where I got it from,\u201d he says. \u201cThere\u2019s guys in WWE who know it\u2019s all fake but they still go there because it\u2019s about the performance, it\u2019s about how you shine.
