{"id":570602,"date":"2026-05-07T06:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T06:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/570602\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T06:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T06:38:08","slug":"village-pond-gets-a-top-up-after-wildlife-threatened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/570602\/","title":{"rendered":"Village pond gets a top up after wildlife threatened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sonning Common Parish Council has been monitoring the pond for several years after residents first noticed the water level was lower than usual in November 2024. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Chair Vicky Boorman said &#8220;It&#8217;s much lower now, at this time of year, than we would expect it to be with recent rain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;People have always taken their children there to feed the ducks, so in living memory, this is an unusual situation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After six carp were found dead in the pond in June 2025, the council arranged for treated water from Thames Water to be pumped into it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The council then commissioned an independent hydrological survey from Water Resource Associates, to try and find out the cause of the diminishing water level.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Its report, in December 2025, concluded that after construction of the adjacent retirement village began in November 2023, the pond water level fell and did not recover in the 2023\/24 winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Sonning Common Parish Council has been monitoring the pond for several years after residents first noticed the water&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":570603,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[26],"tags":[90,56,54,55,4407],"class_list":["post-570602","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom","tag-wildlife"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/570602","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=570602"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/570602\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/570603"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=570602"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=570602"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=570602"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
