{"id":573940,"date":"2026-05-09T01:57:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T01:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/573940\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T01:57:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T01:57:07","slug":"wales-decides-2026-the-full-results-are-in-for-the-2026-senedd-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/573940\/","title":{"rendered":"Wales Decides 2026: The full results are in for the 2026 Senedd Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">The results are in for a historic 2026 Senedd Election, with all 16 of Wales&#8217; constituencies declaring six successful candidates. <\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Plaid Cymru has become the biggest party, <a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/wales\/2026-05-08\/plaid-cymru-secures-the-most-seats-in-historic-senedd-election\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">securing 43 seats.<\/a> <a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/wales\/2026-05-08\/reform-uk-leader-in-wales-dan-thomas-wins-seat-at-senedd-election\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reform UK follows behind with 34. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\"><a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" data-testid=\"next-link-anchor\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/wales\/2026-05-08\/reform-uk-leader-in-wales-dan-thomas-wins-seat-at-senedd-election\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Welsh Labour have suffered a significant collapse, gaining just nine seats. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">A <a class=\"qNUzV q7LZa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/watch\/news\/the-new-voting-system-what-is-the-dhondt-formula-and-how-does-it-work\/4x766r5\" data-testid=\"fecp-link-anchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new voting system<\/a>, using the D&#8217;Hondt method, means that the results are supposed to more proportionally reflect the number of votes each party receives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">To get an outright majority, a party needed at least 49 seats overall. <\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">You can see the breakdown of each constituency&#8217;s party results below:<\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Labour have been the only party in power in Wales since devolution began, so any change to that status quo would be historic. <\/p>\n<p class=\"A8Lwr BVYCX\">Both the Liberal Democrats and Reform UK only had one Senedd Member in the last Welsh Parliament term.
