Hearts could rewrite Scottish football history in just 180 minutes.

That’s how close Derek McInnes and his men are to immortality.

No team outside of Glasgow has been crowned champions of Scotland since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson with Aberdeen in 1985.

And now Hearts are tantalisingly close. In fact, they are so close that the SPFL have already put plans in place for a potential trophy presentation at Tynecastle on Wednesday.

McInnes is cautious by nature and won’t be looking beyond this tricky clash with Motherwell with just one win in three against the impressive Steelmen this season.

Jens Berthel Askou has won so many admirers with his team’s style of play this season and that has seen him touted for a move to Celtic.

If he can dent the Jambos tonight then he’ll certainly be admired in the east end of Glasgow as the Hoops look to close the gap at the top.

Motherwell XI: Ward, Said, Gordon, Welsh, O’Donnell, Priestman, Watt, Slattery, Longelo, Just, Maswanhise.

Subs: Connelly, Sparrow, Halliday, Nicholson, Koutroumbis, Ross, Booth, Hendry, Charles-Cook.

Hearts XI: Schwolow, Steinwender, Halkett, Findlay, Kingsley, Altena, Leonard, Baningime, Spittal, Shankland, Braga.

Subs: Fulton, Kent, McCart, Kabore, Borchgrevink, Devlin, Kerjota, Kyziridis, Chesnokov.
