{"id":575739,"date":"2026-05-10T02:55:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T02:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/575739\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T02:55:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T02:55:10","slug":"not-my-finest-hour-james-shaw-laughs-off-viral-giro-ditalia-bottle-disaster-as-british-rider-looks-to-upset-the-apple-cart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/575739\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cNot my finest hour&#8230;\u201d &#8211; James Shaw laughs off viral Giro d\u2019Italia bottle disaster as British rider looks to upset the apple cart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking before Stage 2 in conversation with TNT Sports, Shaw laughed off the now-viral moment. \u201cLots of people have sent me the video of me dropping the bottles, which was obviously not my finest hour,\u201d Shaw admitted.<\/p>\n<p>The British rider then added another joke at his own expense. \u201cI don\u2019t know what was worse, that or the fact they said I was from Derby.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shaw sees chance to \u201cupset the apple cart\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the unwanted viral fame from Stage 1, Shaw arrived at the start of Saturday\u2019s stage far more interested in the racing opportunities potentially opening up later in the day around Veliko Tarnovo.<\/p>\n<p>The second stage of the Giro features a much more complicated and unpredictable finale than the straightforward sprint into Burgas, with repeated climbs, uphill drags and technical sections likely to create a far more aggressive race dynamic.<\/p>\n<p>Shaw suggested the conditions could even encourage teams to gamble earlier than expected rather than simply setting up another bunch finish. \u201cOpportunities don\u2019t come every day, and you\u2019ve got to take them when you can, notice them when they\u2019re there,\u201d Shaw explained. \u201cThere are a few riders hoping to have their moment but for sure we\u2019re going to try and upset the apple cart a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Triple bottle miss!
