Debbie Harry<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Pamela Anderson<\/a>\u00a0are set to play mother and daughter in a new indie comedy film.<\/p>\n

The film in question will be titled\u00a0Maitreya\u00a0and it comes from screenwriter Samuel D. Hunter, known for the Brendan Fraser Oscar-winning film The Whale<\/a>. It will be directed by Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia<\/a>,\u00a0Baskets).<\/p>\n

An official description from independent studio Caviar states: \u201cMaitreya (Anderson), a rising star in the New Age\u00a0healing community, is about to head off to a conference in India when she receives a call from her estranged sister, Monica: their father is dying. Rather than stay home with him, Maitreya decides to bring her entire family \u2013 including her mother Barbara (Harry) \u2013 to the conference and put her New Age healing\u00a0theories to the test (all while surreptitiously gathering material for her next book)\u201d.<\/p>\n

Blondie<\/a> frontwoman Debbie Harry has had a long acting career, starring memorably in David Cronenberg\u2019s landmark body horror Videodrome in 1983, as well as John Waters\u2019 Hairspray, and has had supporting roles in\u00a0Cop Land,\u00a0Union City\u00a0and\u00a0Forever, Lulu.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0she said that her dream actor to play her in a biopic would be Florence Pugh<\/a>, a piece of casting that she said would put her \u201cin heaven\u201d.\u00a0Kirsten Dunst was\u00a0reportedly cast\u00a0to play her as far back as 2007, but that project never came to fruition<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pamela Anderson, meanwhile, has been enjoying a career renaissance, earning widespread acclaim for her turn in the indie drama\u00a0The Last Showgirl<\/a>\u00a0in 2024, and following it up with the mainstream success of the\u00a0remake of\u00a0The Naked Gun<\/a>\u00a0last year, opposite\u00a0Liam Neeson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She said in January that she left the Golden Globe Awards early to avoid Seth Rogen, because being around him \u201cfelt yucky\u201d.\u00a0Rogen produced the 2022 miniseries\u00a0Pam & Tommy<\/a>, which chronicles the fallout of the sex tape that Anderson made in the \u201890s with her then-husband\u00a0M\u00f6tley Cr\u00fce<\/a>\u00a0drummer\u00a0Tommy Lee<\/a>.
