Nottingham Forest head coach Vitor Pereira admits he is unsure whether Manchester United<\/a> and Manchester City-linked Elliot Anderson will stay. The England international has enjoyed a brilliant season at the City Ground and scored Forest’s equaliser in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United.<\/p>\n

Anderson joined the East Midlands club from Newcastle in July 2024 for around \u00a335million and has since established himself as one of the best young players in the Premier League<\/a>. City<\/a> and United are monitoring the 23-year-old’s progress before a potential summer move for the \u00a3100m-rated star.<\/p>\n

Manchester Evening News understands<\/a> that Pep Guardiola’s side are frontrunners to sign Anderson. The Geordie is expected to leave Forest this summer, even though their Premier League status has been secured for another campaign.<\/p>\n

And Pereira has now had his say on Anderson’s future on Trentside. The Portuguese has heaped praise on the midfielder, but remains uncertain over his future at Forest.<\/p>\n

Speaking via the Irish Examiner<\/a>, he said: \u201cI cannot say (whether he will stay), I don\u2019t have the answer. I know he deserves the top of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that he\u2019s our player, and we need to enjoy him because I have worked with the top talent players, but to find a top player with this character is not easy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anderson has endured a difficult time in recent weeks after the death of his mother, Helen. The midfielder dedicated his goal against Newcastle to his mum, with Pereira crediting the player’s character.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt\u2019s difficult for everybody to understand what he is feeling inside. He honoured his mother on the pitch by running until the last minute. He wanted to score a goal a lot, and he believed until the end.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a very talented player, but has a very strong character. He has the quality to score goals. In the warm-up, my assistant said that Elliot was on fire; every shot he took, he scored.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had the funeral of his mother two days ago, and I think he wanted to honour his mother today, that\u2019s why he tried so hard until the last minute.<\/p>\n
