{"id":578540,"date":"2026-05-11T18:49:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T18:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/578540\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T18:49:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T18:49:07","slug":"canelo-called-out-to-face-fighter-who-just-scored-upset-of-the-year-you-cannot-beat-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/578540\/","title":{"rendered":"Canelo called out to face fighter who just scored upset of the year: &#8220;You cannot beat him&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/canelo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canelo Alvarez<\/a> has been called out for a potential light-heavyweight showdown, against someone who has just pulled off a strong candidate for Upset of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>The Mexican\u2019s only outings at 175lbs came against Sergey Kovalev and Dmitry Bivol in 2019 and 2022, respectively, with both fights producing vastly different outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Against Kovalev, Canelo scored an 11th-round finish and became a four-weight world champion in the process, but ultimately suffered a comprehensive points defeat to Bivol.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Alvarez has become a two-time undisputed super-middleweight king, but subsequently lost his crown to Terence Crawford by unanimous decision last September.<\/p>\n<p>Now looking to reclaim at least one of his titles, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/48640380\/canelo-alvarez-face-christian-mbilli-wbc-belt-sept\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the 35-year-old is set to face WBC champion Christian Mbilli<\/a> in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this coming September.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of a potential Mbilli fight, though, the father and trainer of light-heavyweight operator Zak Chelli has proposed an alternative option for Canelo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/zak-chelli-scores-big-upset-over-morrell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Chelli engineered a stunning 10th-round finish over David Morrell<\/a> on Saturday, featuring on the undercard of Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois.<\/p>\n<p>Given Morrell\u2019s status as a top contender, and someone who gave David Benavidez a competitive contest last year, the Cuban\u2019s defeat on UK soil must be considered a monumental upset.<\/p>\n<p>Buoyed by the remarkable result, Zak Chelli Sr told <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/721W5uWdvCo?si=ZRMB-QOVpZ2aREQE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ProBox TV<\/a> that even Canelo, despite his track record against British fighters, cannot beat his son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he wants [to fight at] light-heavyweight, we can go for Canelo. Why not? Canelo has beaten all the British fighters [he\u2019s faced].<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou cannot beat Zak, Canelo.
