Lewis Ferguson WILL play for Rangers<\/a> \u2013 just not yet.<\/p>\n

That’s the guarantee of agent Bill McMurdo, who assures Gers fans that the Bologna star will eventually follow in the footsteps of his dad Derek and uncle Barry.<\/p>\n

Ferguson<\/a> is currently enduring a rotational system employed by I Rossoblu head coach Vincenzo Italiano, which has seen the Scotland star’s playing time decrease from last season.<\/p>\n

Links to his boyhood club, who released him as a teenager, have emerged in recent weeks, as has the question of why the Light Blues never made a move while Ferguson was starring for Hamilton or Aberdeen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the latest episode of Hotline Live, McMurdo believes Rangers were never truly interested, which will leave fans baffled as to why.<\/p>\n

As will the fact that they could have landed him for a relative pittance as McMurdo revealed how much Bologna forked out to prise him away from Pittodrie.<\/p>\n

“No never, not in my opinion.,” said McMurdo when asked if Gers were ever keen. “First of all, I couldn’t understand why they got rid of him, because they said he was too heavy and he would never make the grade. That stung, as you can imagine.<\/p>\n

“But when he moved to Aberdeen, I thought there was a possibility Rangers would come in then. He had a couple of great seasons at Aberdeen and I thought that Rangers would come then. But there were rumours that if Rangers did come in then Aberdeen would put up the price.<\/p>\n

“Now, I can tell you that Bologna got him for \u00a32.5million. It’s not a lot of money, is it?<\/p>\n

“I’ll tell you this; Lewis will play for Rangers before his career finishes. Absolutely no doubt about that.<\/p>\n

“He’s maintained that from day one, that at some time in his career, he will come and play for Rangers. 100 per cent.<\/p>\n

“Two things he’s said to me are that he wanted to play in the English Premier League at some time, and he wants to play for Rangers at some time.”<\/p>\n

As to whether the latter could happen this summer, McMurdo is doubtful given the finances it would invovled.<\/p>\n

He added: “I think the money could be too big, but I cold be wrong.<\/p>\n

“Last year, they couldn’t afford him because when we had Juventus and Napoli with offer son the table, they were talking about paying something in the region of \u20ac20-\u20ac25million.<\/p>\n

“We have a situation now where I’e said to Bologna this year, because of this rotational system that they have, they’ve dropped his value. They have to understand that because of that, his value has to have decreased to about \u20ac10-\u20ac15m.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know if they would agree with me on that, but the very fact that he’s not played as many games I think could have an adverse affect on his transfer fee.<\/p>\n

“I said in an article this week that he would go to any one of the top five countries<\/a>. I never thought at the time about Rangers for the simple reason that I didn’t think that Rangers would want to pay the money.<\/p>\n

“I still don’t know what Bologna are looking for. I’ll have a meeting with them in the next two to three weeks and it may well be that they want to keep him. We’ve got two years left on the contract, I don’t know what they want to do.<\/p>\n

“if they were looking for \u20ac10, \u20ac15 or \u20ac20m, is that too much for Rangers?<\/p>\n

“If Rangers could make it happen and do a deal with Bologna, then I would love that. But I don’t know because of the money situation.”<\/p>\n

McMurdo also revealed that Ferguson’s name was put to Celtic before he made the switch to Serie A, and they reason they passed still makes him chuckle.<\/p>\n

He explained: “I think he’d have considered it, as a professional. He always wants to develop his career and I think he could have developed his career at Celtic given the opportunity.<\/p>\n

“I was told on good authority that Tosh McKinlay had put him forward to Celtic on a couple of occasions and they refused to take it any further.<\/p>\n

“The reason that they gave for not pursuing it was that somebody, in their wisdom, said he’s not very good a penalties. I find that funny, even today.<\/p>\n

“That was when he was at Aberdeen.
