\n The facility has been created in a deal with Hackney\u2019s Orthodox community and its Gezint organisation, which\u00a0bridges the\u00a0gaps between the Jewish population and the NHS.\n<\/p>\n
\n The formal opening was made by Hackney\u2019s\u00a0Mayor Caroline Woodley\u00a0and\u00a0the council\u2019s cabinet member for health and adult social care Cllr Chris Kennedy.\n<\/p>\n
\n They were joined by the hospital trust\u2019s chair Mary Elford and chief executive Bas Sadiq. Members of Homerton\u2019s chaplaincy team and 20 staff from the wards joined in, along with Orthodox community leaders like The Rev Efrayim Goldstein and Rabbi Isaak Kohn.\n<\/p>\n
\n Gezint has worked with Homerton Healthcare trust to provide a\u00a0kosher kitchenette\u00a0in the Starlight ward that is\u00a0available round the clock.\n<\/p>\n
\n A\u00a0fully-stocked kosher pantry\u00a0has also been set up\u00a0in the birth delivery suite for Orthodox mothers\u00a0and an ice machine\u00a0in the Templar staff room.\n<\/p>\n
\n The new arrangements reflect the healthcare trust\u2019s commitment to inclusive care \u201crespecting the diverse needs of the Hackney\u00a0communities\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n Gazint aims to bring familiarity and respite\u00a0for patients and their families by providing kosher food, refreshments and necessities. Their work supports both\u00a0minority communities and the general public.\n<\/p>\n
\n The organisation now runs facilities in\u00a016 London hospitals, including the Homerton.\n<\/p>\n
