{"id":5817,"date":"2025-07-18T04:20:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T04:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/5817\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T04:20:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T04:20:20","slug":"labours-multi-billion-pound-plan-to-slash-energy-bills-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/5817\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour\u2019s multi-billion pound plan to slash energy bills \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DESNZ research released earlier this year found <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/media\/67e51e2cbb6002588a90d5d5\/annual-fuel-poverty-statistics-report-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">homes dependent on electricity<\/a> for heating had the highest rate of fuel poverty, at just over 20 percent, but the vast majority of homes still depend on gas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a significant political risk of the policy, as designed, that it will help a small demographic, and that by choosing that over, say, broader rebalancing [of green levies on all bills] they have chosen risk of that accusation over fiscal risk,\u201d the industry figure said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ministers are considering other policies ahead of October to incentivize a shift towards cleaner tech.<\/p>\n<p>That includes year-on-year increases to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, a grant program to help with the cost of installing a heat pump,\u00a0every year up to 2029\/30, according to the text of emails sent by DESNZ and seen by POLITICO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Grants of \u00a37,500 are currently available under the scheme, which has a budget of \u00a3295 million between 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Ministers are also considering \u201csignificant funding to deliver heat network schemes\u201d during this parliament, the same email said.
