When the centre opened, fewer than 150 Iberian lynxes remained worldwide. Since then, more than 180 cubs have been born at the facility and over 100 animals have been prepared for release into the wild.

The species, once classified as Critically Endangered, was reclassified as Endangered in 2015 and more recently as Vulnerable, in what is widely considered one of Europe’s greatest wildlife conservation success stories.

Source: LUSA

Questions are being raised over the future of the Iberian lynx breeding centre in Silves after the government…

[22
32886,1397,98851,90,199075,56,54,55
post-582508","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-algarve","tag-environment","tag-iberian-lynx","tag-science","tag-silves","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
