During its 2026 upfront presentation, Netflix revealed that its $8.99-per-month plan reaches more than 250 million people around the globe, a significant leap from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/667042\/netflix-ad-supported-tier-94-million-users-upfront-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">94 million users reported last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Netflix first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2022\/10\/13\/23402725\/netflix-basic-with-ads\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rolled out its ad-supported Basic tier in 2022<\/a>, and since then, it has not only grown in memberships but also in price. The streaming service has included the Basic plan in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/streaming\/901833\/netflix-subscription-pricing-increase-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">recent hikes<\/a>, making it cost $2 more than its $6.99 launch price. This week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton cited Netflix\u2019s ad-supported plan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/streaming\/928071\/texas-netflix-lawsuit-privacy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a lawsuit against the company<\/a>, claiming the service misled subscribers about the data it\u2019s collecting about them for ads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">Netflix is expanding its ad-supported tier to 15 new countries as well, including Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand.
