An actor who rose to fame as a teenager <\/a>has detailed how being on his \u2018deathbed\u2019 made him pursue a career in Hollywood.<\/p>\n After being scouted as a model, Chad Michael Murray had his break-out screen role when cast as Tristin DuGray on Gilmore Girls in 2000.<\/p>\n He then went on to star <\/a>in One Tree Hill and appear in A Cinderella Story<\/a>, Freaky Friday and House of Wax.<\/p>\n However, he\u2019s now detailed a near-death experience that sparked his desire to pursue acting.<\/p>\n \u2018I was 15 and my intestines was twisted, and I was hospitalised for two and a half months,\u2019 the 43-year-old shared on the Great Company <\/a>podcast.<\/p>\n \u2018It was a lot. We had surgery, I had internal bleeding, I lost 50 percent of my blood. I was on my deathbed.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t The actor explained that he was in and out of consciousness while receiving treatment, but at one point he woke to find his father and a priest standing at the foot of his bed \u2018talking about last rites\u2019.<\/p>\n However, he recovered after receiving a blood transfusion.<\/p>\n \u2018It saved my life,\u2019 he said. \u2018Regardless, you\u2019re in there for two months and my organs shut down because you have blood all coagulated around them, and they had to wait till everything [healed more]\u2026I had to have a second surgery to clean everything up.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t He went on to share that leaving hospital was the \u2018scariest thing ever\u2019 as he was a \u2018skeleton\u2019 when he got out.\u2019 I remember looking in the mirror the first time going, \u201cWho is that?\u201d I cried. I couldn\u2019t believe that I was looking back at that guy.\u2019<\/p>\n Murray also said the health scare not only brought him closer to his faith and his family \u2013 especially his father who was a single parent raising Murray and his five siblings \u2013 but was the catalyst to chase acting after speaking to a nurse.<\/p>\n \u2018She says to me, \u201cOh gosh, you should model\u201d,\u2019 he recalled.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018I was like, \u201cI don\u2019t want to model. I want to be an actor. Like, I love film and television. I want to give this gift to other people\u201d. And she\u2019s like, \u201cWell, you can segue from modelling into acting. Look, when you get out, I\u2019m hooking you up with this modelling company I know\u201d.
