{"id":585225,"date":"2026-05-15T09:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T09:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/585225\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T09:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T09:26:08","slug":"brighton-beach-deaths-have-had-a-huge-effect-on-us-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/585225\/","title":{"rendered":"Brighton beach deaths have &#8216;had a huge effect on us all&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Robbie Jones, who became a water safety campaigner after his dad drowned in the sea off Hove Beach in 2021, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/live\/bbc_radio_sussex\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Radio Sussex<\/a>: &#8220;I know exactly what this is like.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Grief is hard enough, death is hard enough, but to have grief and loss in these circumstances is truly devastating and it&#8217;s another kind of layer of burden when it comes to grief.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Brighton Pavilion MP Sian Berry said it was &#8220;devastating, heartbreaking news&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a tragedy I think that has affected everyone in the city,&#8221; she told BBC Radio Sussex.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;You can feel the emotions from people who talk about it, and the rest of the country as well. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;m getting messages from lots people who are not in Brighton who are nevertheless sending their thoughts in our directions.
