KoRn<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0Munky\u00a0has said the band\u00a0have\u00a0written 40 songs for a new album, while addressing bassist Fieldy\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n

The Bakersfield, California nu-metal band\u00a0released their first new music in four years last month<\/a>, \u2018Reward\u00a0The\u00a0Scars\u2019,\u00a0which they created for the\u00a0video game\u00a0Diablo IV: Lord Of Hatred<\/a>.\u00a0They have also shared the gory animated video for the track<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with\u00a0Rolling Stone Brasil<\/a>, guitarist James \u2018Munky\u2019 Shaffer spoke about\u00a0the work they have been putting in on their new record since\u00a02022\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Requiem<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s taking a fucking long time,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve gone through\u2026 I swear to God, we\u2019ve written probably almost 40 songs, and gone through \u2019em, and rewrote \u2019em, and got rid of \u2019em, and tore \u2019em apart, and rebuilt \u2019em.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s been quite a long process, because we\u2019re very critical about what we do now. We\u2019re very particular, in\u2026 because we wanna keep our original sound. You can\u2019t really get away from that \u2013 when we start playing, it sounds like KoRn, especially with all five of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Munky also addressed bassist\u00a0Fieldy\u2019s departure from the group in 2021<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cTrying to get him engaged was a little bit difficult, just to stay in the room while\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0writing,\u201d he explained. \u201cHe would always just kind of leave\u2026 and\u00a0he\u2019d\u00a0be in there for a few minutes and then kind of just not focused, and he just\u00a0kind of lost\u00a0his ambition, I guess.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0okay. It happens. People, everything,\u00a0goes\u00a0in\u00a0cycles. We\u2019re definitely not mad at him or\u00a0anything,\u00a0we want him to be happy. And it\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0really feel like he was happy being a working musician at the time.\u00a0So\u00a0it was kind of like it was a mutual sort of \u2013 I wouldn\u2019t say split \u2013 because I still use the word hiatus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0Fieldy said he hasn\u2019t spoken to his former bandmates since 2019<\/a>, while\u00a0at the time of his departure<\/a>, he said he had been \u201cdealing with some personal issues that at times have caused me to fall back on some of my\u00a0bad habits\u00a0and has caused some tension with the people around me\u201d.<\/p>\n

The band have also\u00a0announced a headline tour for the UK and Europe for later this year<\/a>, their first string of shows on these shores in over 10 years, having headlined Download<\/a> last year. Jonathan Davis<\/a>\u00a0and co.\u00a0played \u2018Reward The Scars\u2019 for the first time to a 50,000 strong crowd at Sick New World in Las Vegas<\/a>\u00a0last month.<\/p>\n

Their last studio album, \u2018Requiem<\/a>\u2019, came out in February 2022. In\u00a0a four-star review, NME\u00a0said<\/a>: \u201cIt would be a push to call this Korn\u2019s first \u2018happy\u2019 album.
