{"id":586869,"date":"2026-05-16T06:42:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T06:42:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/586869\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T06:42:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T06:42:15","slug":"bbc-star-paul-martin-backs-landmark-trowbridge-cycling-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/586869\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC star Paul Martin backs landmark Trowbridge cycling event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Wiltshire\u2019s\u00a0inaugural\u00a0Tour de Trowbridge 2026\u00a0charity cycling event, will place on\u00a0Sunday, May 31,\u00a0and has attracted hundreds of cyclists from across Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol, Bath and beyond.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Celebrity auctioneer\u00a0and presenter of the\u00a0BBC\u2019s Flog It, Paul Martin, also an ambassador to the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance visited the charity\u2019s airbase in Semington this week to encourage cyclists of all ages and abilities to take part in the Tour de Trowbridge.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  All event profits will be donated to\u00a0Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance,\u00a0St. John Ambulance Wiltshire\u00a0and the\u00a0Mayor of Trowbridge\u2019s Charity Appeal.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The\u00a0Tour de Trowbridge, sponsored by apetito \/Wiltshire Farm Foods, features four routes,\u00a0from 5 miles to 79 miles\u00a0through the picturesque Wiltshire countryside.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Lee Sheppard, director of Corporate Affairs, Policy and Sustainability at\u00a0apetito\u00a0said: \u201cWe are delighted to be supporting the fantastic new Tour de Trowbridge event for Wiltshire, which provides a brilliant opportunity to champion an active lifestyle, bring people together and strengthen community spirit.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n    Full access to all of our articles online and on the app, fewer adverts, a better reading experience, exclusive competitions and more &#8211; all for less than the price of a cup of coffee. \u2615\ufe0fSubscribe now! &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/t7A1ayW7mR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">https:\/\/t.co\/t7A1ayW7mR<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Dk1fvaFm1K\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/Dk1fvaFm1K<\/a>\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n    \u2014 Wiltshire Times (@wiltshiretimes) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wiltshiretimes\/status\/2043692587584758098?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 13, 2026<\/a>\n  <\/p>\n<p>\n  The event will start and finish in Trowbridge Town Park, where cycle-themed activities will include pedal-powered smoothie makers, a range of bikes for people to try out, cycle challenges, bike repairs and security tips, food and drink, first aid training from St John Ambulance, and\u00a0Tour de Trowbridge\u00a0medals presented to all riders.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Six-time World Champion Para Cyclist, Lauren Booth\u00a0from Chippenham, will also attend the event as part of her role as a volunteer for Wiltshire &amp; Bath Air Ambulance.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The youngest Tour de Trowbridge entrant,\u00a0four-year-old bike fan Wilf from Colerne will be entering with his parents and older sister.\u00a0 His mother Heidi said: \u201cWilf is bike crazy and loves to tell us about imaginary bike races that he competes in, on a daily basis, so we figured it was time for him to try a real bike race.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe all love to ride and have just planned a bike-packing holiday in Holland for the summer, so this will also be good training.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Octogenarian entrants include\u00a084-year-old banjo playing tricyclist\u00a0Eric Windsor from Trowbridge, who used to cycle to school in the 1940\u2019s, has competed in races and cycle rides across the UK, and has been a member of the Frome and District Wheelers since 1961.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Eric said:\u00a0\u201cI heard about the Tour de Trowbridge through my cycle club as quite a few of us are entering. I\u2019m doing the 25-mile route on my trusty tricycle via Keevil, Great Cheverell and Edington and am looking forward to riding with friends and cyclists of all.
