So we’ll see what happens. He needs a rest.”

Who is Daniel Dubois likely to face next?

Wardley has the right to activate a rematch clause written into both men’s contracts.

Usually, such clauses have a 30-day window for the loser to decide whether to run it back.

If Wardley chooses to pass up on a second fight, then the WBO will look to order a clash with the major sanctioning body’s No.1 contender, Moses Itauma.

The precocious 21-year-old is booked in for an August 8 headliner at London’s O2 Arena.

His opponent is yet to be announced, although Filip Hrgovic is said to be the frontrunner, providing he gets past Dave Allen unscathed on Saturday.

2

Dubois is expected to make the first defence of his WBO heavyweight title before the end of NovemberCredit: Getty

If Queensberry were to make Itauma-Dubois in late November then it would be a three-and-a half-month turnaround for the Chatham southpaw.

However, Dubois’ trainer, Don Charles, anticipates that Queensberry will keep him and Itauma apart for another 18 months.

“He is a young fighter, he is the future,” Charles said during a recent apperance on talkSPORT’s talkBOXING podcast.

“Frank Warren, we trust, I think he will keep them apart for now.

“Let them fight in a unification, Moses could go away and become a world champion.

“They could do it in 18 months; they are both signed to Frank.
