Jeremy Clarkson shared what he believes a new version of Top Gear should look like, following reports the popular BBC show could return<\/p>\n

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson <\/a>has shared his thoughts on a potential revival of the show he once fronted. The 66-year-old hosted Top Gear alongside Richard Hammond<\/a> and James May<\/a> between 2003 and 2015, before the trio launched The Grand Tour.<\/p>\n

Following their exit, Top Gear<\/a> continued before the BBC<\/a> announced in 2023 that it would not return for the \u201cforeseeable future\u201d, saying it had \u201cdecided to rest the show\u201d following Freddie Flintoff\u2019s injuries.<\/p>\n

In a statement released at the time of the announcement the BBC said: \u201cWe know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now Jeremy, who has also made a name for himself as a farmer in the 11 years since he stopped presenting Top Gear, has had his say on what he thinks a new version of the show should look like.<\/p>\n

The presenter believes the show should, if it comes back, focus more on consumer journalism to help people navigate the changing motoring landscape.<\/p>\n

He told The Times<\/a>: “There is an opening for someone to review electrical cars because no one really understands them. I’m not going to watch it but there are lots of people who do want to know about all these Chinese cars because it’s all completely changing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should do it as a consumer programme, which would be quite a ballsy thing to do because no one wants to go back to the Seventies. Like What Car magazine on television.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for BBC Studios said: \u201cThe Top Gear brand continues to thrive across digital, publishing and global formats. As a commercial producer, we’re always exploring new ways to develop the brand and reach audiences by leveraging such iconic IP.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeremy\u2019s comments come as reports swirl about whether the show will be brought back. What\u2019s more, this isn\u2019t the first former Top Gear presenter to speak about the show\u2019s absence and what that means for UK viewing.<\/p>\n

Last year, speaking to the Oxford Mail, Richard <\/a>said Top Gear being off air for a few years wasn\u2019t new. He said: \u201cIt\u2019s been off-air before. It\u2019s been on and off air for the last 40 odd years. It is a BBC-owned show, it was a magazine show about cars, and it\u2019s gone through various incarnations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt had been off the air for a few years when we took it on, and then we did our thing with it, and then they gave it on to another team, and they did their thing.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it ended after Freddie’s crash, and my reaction to that was, \u2018Oh god, poor Freddie, that sounds awful\u2019.
