{"id":587586,"date":"2026-05-16T16:52:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T16:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/587586\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T16:52:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T16:52:07","slug":"giant-like-jerram-e-coli-sculpture-at-bristol-sewage-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/587586\/","title":{"rendered":"Giant Like Jerram E.coli sculpture at Bristol sewage protest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Jerram, who kayaks in the harbour in Bristol and whose previous work includes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cj3vz2p4xp3o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sun in a swimming pool<\/a>, said the sculpture is &#8220;five million times larger than the real thing&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said: &#8220;I really care about this place, and if we get it right we should be able to clean up the docks and make it a place for everyone to enjoy &#8211; make it safe, beautiful and full of wildlife.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The national protest was organised by Surfers Against Sewage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Professor Steve Simpson, University of Bristol Professor of Marine Biology and Global Change, said: &#8220;We&#8217;ve seen improvements but at the moment standards are slipping. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;There&#8217;s been a lot of loss of regulation and as a result now we&#8217;re starting to see people get sick from surfing again. That can&#8217;t be the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Anna Steele-Perkins, volunteer at Surfers against Sewage in Bristol, said: &#8220;We want public health to be put first and foremost.
