Tonight is the night! Could this year’s Eurovision Song Contest<\/a> final be the one the United Kingdom take home the trophy?<\/p>\n

The grand final kicked off in style tonight (16 May), with Denmark’s S\u00f8ren Torpegaard Lund<\/a> opening the show and it won’t be long before the UK’s entrant takes centre stage!<\/p>\n

This year, the United Kingdom is being represented by Look Mum No Computer<\/a> (aka Sam Battle), whose song is a fusion of synths and electronic-bass, and it’ll all hinge on Saturday night’s grand final<\/a> to see if we could claim the trophy.<\/p>\n

Ahead of this first live performance, Radio Times<\/a> caught up with Sam who admitted he was feeling “apprehension and excitement”.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve got a lot to do,” he said. “It\u2019s a big responsibility, I\u2019ve done a lot of work already, but there\u2019s plenty of stuff to come. I\u2019m building a lot of the set myself because it needs to look like the things that I use, the musical machines that I make.”<\/p>\n

Sam Battle, better known by his stage name Look Mum No Computer, is a multi-talented solo artist, experimental singer\/songwriter and inventor to just name a few of his accolades.<\/p>\n

A self-proclaimed Eurovision fan based in Kent, Sam first burst onto the music scene in 2014 as the frontman of indie rock band, ZIBRA. Since then, he has launched a solo career and has played to packed venues across the UK and Europe and ahead of Eurovision, returned from a nationwide tour across Germany.<\/p>\n

In 2016, he launched his own YouTube channel and has amassed a combined 1.4 million subscribers and followers across his various social accounts. It’s his particular skill in creating musical inventions that he earned viral acclaim, notably for organs made from Furbies and Game Boys, synthesizer bicycles, flame throwing keyboards and a Star Wars droid orchestra.<\/p>\n

Look Mum No Computer will represent the UK with his song Eins, Zwei, Drei<\/a>. The song was co-written and produced with Lasse Midtsian Nymann (NYLAN), Julie ‘Kill J’ Aagaard and Thomas Stengaard.<\/p>\n

The song is about “escaping the soul-crushing boredom of the nine to five, into a world of dreams and endless possibilities”, featuring undertones of Britpop and ’80s synthwave.<\/p>\n

“I am absolutely buzzing that the world can finally hear what we have created. Eins, Zwei, Drei was born during a session with the other writers and producers on my synthesizer \u2018Kosmo\u2019, and I couldn\u2019t be prouder of it,” said Look Mum No Computer.<\/p>\n

“I want people to be able to dance, shout, singalong, and just embrace the absurd jubilation that I hope it sparks when you listen to it. We\u2019re working hard on pulling together all the elements to make it one of the wildest performances to ever grace the Eurovision stage, which is no small feat! See you in Vienna!”<\/p>\n

The Eurovision Song Contest has faced significant criticism over its decision to allow Israel to take part in the event due to the ongoing war in Gaza.<\/p>\n

This year, a number of countries will boycott the contest following the European Broadcasting Union\u2019s decision not to expel Israel from the competition.<\/p>\n

At the EBU general assembly in December 2025, a vote was held to introduce new rules that would stop governments and third parties from disproportionately promoting songs to influence voters. No vote was held on Israel\u2019s participation.<\/p>\n

The EBU said in a statement<\/a>: “A large majority of members agreed that there was no need for a further vote on participation and that the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 should proceed as planned, with the additional safeguards in place.”<\/p>\n

Following this, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Iceland confirmed they would not participate in this year\u2019s Eurovision.<\/p>\n

Irish broadcaster RT\u00c9 said<\/a>: “RT\u00c9 feels that Ireland\u2019s participation remains unconscionable given the appalling loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there, which continues to put the lives of so many civilians at risk.”<\/p>\n

The BBC, which broadcasts the competition in the UK, has said it supports the decision made by the EBU. “This is about enforcing the rules of the EBU and being inclusive,” it said in a statement.<\/p>\n
